Unleashing the power of the Sonic Scout Driver
Time has come
I postponed this moment for too long. The current version is far from clean, but it's time to share what I've created to see how it is appreciated by other music explorers.
The current version can be downloaded in the side bar (this will be refreshed at each patch or new version), but you can also follow directly via the gitlab page.
The wiki page is also available for generic and specific information.
At this step, the system is not easy to install, as described in the install section. If you already have python (2.7) and pip installed, this will not be too hard, but otherwise you will have to get them on your own. I'm working on a solution to allow a battery-included version for windows, but don't wait it too soon.
Features
The features and working are described in the wiki, but to make things short, SSD allows you to:
- Explore your musical universe through a galactic metaphor
- Navigate through tracks and keep track of the journey
- Annotate tracks and edit metadata
Important warnings
On windows, the WX version is very unstable: for several cases you will have to answer things directly in the shell, and if the main window is loaded but a dialog does not show up, try to press the alt key, it may be miraculous.
Don't hesitate to report any bug you see that I have forgotten, but for now this is still an alpha so there are quite a few things that are still buggy.
Close future
Now that the alpha is officially released, I will focus on the accessibility of the software and the user experience more than integrate big fat new features (even if I have plenty of them in mind).
So about the accessibility the incoming patches will be:
- Improve the documentation with relevant and efficient screenshots for easier overview
- Give access to a sample set of free music for users that wouldn't have a bunch of mp3 under the keyboard
- (wx) Adjust the universe map to the window size when the universe load is manual
- Clean the session system and allow "current session" management
- Add a french translation for my fellow friends that may struggle with the current version
- Migrate to Python 3 (while keeping a Python 2.7 version in parallel)
I hope you will enjoy the journey as much as I do, and if you want to react, feel free to comment below !
